Cadaster Property Data:
A cadastre is a land or property register typically created for purposes of taxation, and it normally includes both detailed maps and corresponding property registers. In Austrian Galicia, there were essentially three land surveys that are important for genealogy. The first of these, known as the Josephine Cadaster, was conducted between 1785 and 1789. The second important Galician cadastre, the Franciscan Cadastre was a long term project. A provisional survey of 1819 was based on the Josephine cadaster and is referred to as the Franciscan Cadastre. The complete more detailed survey completed in 1860 or so is called the Galician cadaster. The property numbers for this survey are completely different from the early surveys. We have Galicia survey maps and Frasciscan survey registers. The others have been destroyed. Not much help to us but can be interesting. For cautions and usage click here.
