Anna Oresik Pappal, of Indiana, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at the age of 102. She was born March 16, 1915, in Green Township, the eldest daughter of the late Adam and Mary Ann Churella Solanski Oresik.

As a child, she attended Kinnan School. She earned her high school diploma from Indiana High School in 1933, where she was a member of the Commercial Honors Club. Mrs. Pappal was the only one of her siblings to graduate from high school.

On Oct. 12, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dixonville, she married Andrew Pappal, a marriage that lasted 70 years. Following their wedding, Ann and Andy lived in Creekside, where they rented rooms from the Nanni family above the Casablanca Inn. In 1947, they moved to Indiana, where they lived out the remainder of their days together until Andy’s death on March 8, 2011.

Ann enjoyed traveling to various fishing spots with her husband, visiting locations such as the Gulf of Mexico, Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City, Lake Erie and various lakes and dams in western Pennsylvania.

She was a longtime member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Ann also volunteered for the American Cancer Society.

In her free time, Ann enjoyed reading, doing crossword and word search puzzles, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. She had fantastic fashion sense and occupied her time sewing or altering new articles of clothing for herself or others. She was talented at crocheting and embroidering, and had a green thumb for houseplants, especially African violets. Ann enjoyed antique shopping and particularly liked going to Kemp’s Old Mill Antique Shop to search for that special item.

Though she kept quite busy with personal hobbies, her greatest joy in life was her family. Ann was a devoted, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ann is survived by three children: daughters Carol Pappal, of Indiana; and Diana Isenberg (Thomas), of Warren, Ohio; and son, David Pappal (Terri), of San Antonio, Texas; her sister, Katherine Haslego, of Middlefield, Ohio; two sisters-in-law: Rose Pappal, of Indiana; and Debbie Pappal and brother-in-law, Metro Pappal, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; along with many nieces and nephews. She also is survived by eight grandchildren: Michael Isenberg, Vincent Isenberg (Carolyn Myers), Molly Isenberg Hartsough (Raymond), Curtis Isenberg (Ashleigh Larrison), Ryan Pappal, Christine Flynn O’Donnell (Kenneth), Jim Flynn (Kelly) and Scott Flynn (Jaclyn); and nine great-grandchildren: Alexis, Andrea, Alex, Makayla, Aric, Conner, Collin, Ava and William. Three more great-grandchildren will be born this year.

In addition to her parents, Adam and Mary Ann, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; sisters Julia Schmidt and Josephine Cole; brother Joseph Oresik; half-sisters Mary Zubal and Betty Garbe; half-brother George Solanski; and a granddaughter, Sarah Isenberg.

Ann’s family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rose Haven for the exceptional care they extended toward Ann over the course of the past 5οΎ½ years. We would also like to thank Ann’s hospice workers for making her final days and passing comfortable and pain free. We are eternally grateful that Ann was under the care of compassionate, skilled individuals during the last years of her life.

The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Robinson-Lytle Inc., Indiana. A funeral celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church with a one-hour visitation beforehand. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
The family kindly suggests memorial contributions in honor of Ann’s life may be made to the American Cancer Society, Indiana Unit, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620; the American Heart Association, Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Ave., Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222; or VNA/Hospice, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
